We Tell the Stories That Matter

We believe informed voices build stronger nations — so we listen, reflect, and speak on the policies that matter to South Sudan.

About Our Founder

Our Story

Yien Gatbuok Danhier, an alumnus of Kenyatta University (Kenya), is a Public Policy and Governance Specialist.

He is a Public Policy and Research Fellow of Tomorrow’s Africa Alliance (ToAFA, Ghana), a Program Associate of the Program for Global Human Resource Development for Peace Building and Development at Hiroshima University (Japan), and the Founder and Director of South Sudan in My Own Eyes (SSIMOE) — a Digital Think-Tank dedicated to engaging, educating, and empowering South Sudanese youth regarding the implications of policy decisions that affect their lives.

Beyond that, he is a Writer and Researcher committed to fostering and contributing to good governance, constitutionalism, foreign policy, peace and security, regional integration, and institutional development.

Our Mission

We believe that when people truly understand the decisions shaping their lives, they gain the power to make a difference.

We want South Sudanese voices to be heard loud and clear — not only within our borders but across the world.

So our mission is clear and focused:

engage

Engage South Sudanese citizens in meaningful conversations about the policies that affect them every day.

educate

Educate communities on how these policies work — and why they matter to our futures.

empower

Empower individuals and groups with the knowledge and tools to stand up for their rights and shape their communities.

Our Core Values

Inclusivity

We believe that progress happens when everyone has a seat at the table. SSIMOE is built on the principle that every voice — regardless of background, age, gender, or belief — deserves to be heard, respected, and valued. We make space for all perspectives, because real change is only possible when it's shaped by all of us.

Integrity

Honesty is not optional — it’s the foundation of everything we do. Whether it’s through our research, campaigns, or conversations, we are committed to transparency, truthfulness, and staying grounded in our purpose. Our platform exists to build trust, not break it.

Collaboration

We know we can't do this alone — and we don’t want to. We actively work with individuals, communities, organizations, and institutions to create solutions that reflect the will and wisdom of the people. Together, we’re stronger, louder, and more capable of driving real change.

Patriotism

We believe true patriotism means showing up — not just with pride, but with purpose. Through informed engagement, dialogue, and action, we work to build a South Sudan that reflects the hopes of its people.

Why It Matters

Most stories about South Sudan have been told by others. But we get to tell our own story. Right here. Right now.

This platform is our space to:

  • Challenge stereotypes and assumptions.

  • Ask the tough questions that need answers.

  • Show the world the full picture of South Sudan — its strength, its hopes, its people.

We know stories create dialogue. Dialogue sparks ideas. And ideas fuel change.

We’re not a newsroom or a political party.
We’re a community of people who care deeply enough to say: “Let’s talk about this — honestly, openly, together.”

Workshops & Trainings

We conduct workshops and training sessions to equip citizens with knowledge about governance, wealth creation, justice, peace and reconciliation, and education access.

Advocacy Campaigns

We run campaigns and organise digital panellist discussions that raise awareness about critical policy and contemporary issues and mobilise community action.

Research & Publications

We produce research reports and educational materials that inform citizens about policy implications and promote evidence-based decision-making.

Community Engagement

We facilitate community forums and discussions that encourage dialogue and collaboration among citizens, policymakers, and stakeholders.

What We Do

We believe every South Sudanese has the right to understand what’s happening in their country — and the power to be part of the change. That’s why everything we do is about making information more accessible, creating space for real conversations, and giving people the tools to speak up and take action.

SSIMOE

We’re on a mission to help South Sudanese citizens engage with policy in a real, impactful way. Through research, dialogue, and analysis, we make complex issues easier to understand—so together, we can shape a more informed and empowered society.
